Adding a 2FA Token

Adding a 2FA token is simplified with 2Faktor.

1. Click the + button on the right side of the token menu.

2. A pop-up will appear, to add a token.

3. Choose one of the following methods for adding the 2FA token:

Scan the QR code using the 2Faktor app (available on IOS and Android)
Upload a screenshot of the QR code, no mobile device required!
Copy and paste the generated text code from the website.

4. Enter any additional details for identification.

5. Click Add and the token will be available for immediate use.

Your token can now be shared with team members and guests added to your organization.

What’s the relation between a Secret Key and the QR/Text code when adding a 2FA token?

A QR code is a visual representation of the secret key, a unique string of text shared between your account and your authenticator app.
When you scan the QR code or enter the generated text manually, 2Faktor stores it securely and uses it to generate Time-Based One-Time Passwords (TOTP), updating every 30 seconds.
These codes verify your identity each time you log in, ensuring only you can access your account across devices.

How do I get the QR code or Secret Key from a website to use with 2Faktor?

To set up 2Faktor with a website, go to that site’s account or security settings and look for an option like Two-Factor Authentication or Add External Authenticator App.
When you choose to set up an authenticator, the site will produce a QR code or a manual secret key (string of text).
You can then use that code to add the site to 2Faktor and start generating your 2FA tokens.
